The Mariel Vandersteel Trio blends together the sounds of old-time fiddle with the captivating and haunting music of Norway’s hardanger fiddle. Weaving together the fluidity of the harp (Maeve Gilchrist), the warmth of the guitar (Jordan Tice) and the uniqueness of the hardanger fiddle, Mariel’s Trio creates a performance that will draw the audience into an imaginary world, one where they will find themselves among old and new traditions. Mariel performs nationally and internationally with Laura Cortese and Blue Moose and the Unbuttoned Zippers. Maeve Gilchrist recently released a solo instrumental harp album, The Ostinato Project and performs regularly with her trio. Jordan Tice is a member of the acclaimed quartet, 4tet, and also performs with his trio including Brittany Haas and Paul Kowert.
“She has captured the essences of both the Norwegian & old-time fiddle traditions and turned them into something all her own that is a positive joy to listen to.” – Natalie Haas, cellist.
